Our
first featured rider is Yamaha/Fox rider Landon Currier.
Landon and his number thirty-six Yamaha are
consistently at the front of the pack, no matter if it’s a small town
local race or the AMA Amateur Nationals in Tennesee!
Landon’s skill and dedication coupled with an optimistic and
upbeat personality will undoubtedly lead us to the pleasure of viewing him
battling it out with the big boys in a few years.
PremierNWMX:
Landon, first off, glad to see you back on the bike, and riding
strong. Looks like you haven't really lost anything during your time
off. How do you feel?
LC:
I feel good!
PremierNWMX:
You had what about six, eight
months off?
LC:
[laughing] I lost track, but since the
beginning of April and really
since
March.
PremierNWMX:
So do you think the break has helped you? I mean, I know there
was some stuff going on just before you gut hurt in texas, and it looks
like you're just out here having a blast now, and rippin’ it up.
LC:
Yeah, it probably did help me but being off the bike sucked
every day! But I’m bigger now and I
got a little more muscle, I matured and am appreciating riding now,
and having a lot more fun, It’s sick!
PremierNWMX:
That's Killer. Speaking of being bigger and getting a little more
muscle, you've been on the 125 quite a bit lately in practice!
What's up with that?
LC:
[laughing]Not just practice much longer!!
I want to race it but I’m going to do this year and some of next
year on 80's and my supermini but I love riding my 125, it’s a blast!
PremierNWMX:
So when are we gonna' see you race on the big bike? That's what everyone is asking!
LC:
I don’t know, if
u find out tell me ‘cause I can't wait!!
Not sure yet but u can only step up not down, so I’ll be there
soon! I’m pumped because I
like the bike a lot its fun.
PremierNWMX
Ok it's a deal...I'll let you know. You look super comfortable on
it too! Can you tell all the other kids who are making the
transition what has helped you do it so easily?
LC:
Thanks. Umm… just have fun and make it work for you; just
have fun, that's a big part of everything.
Oh and get a Yamaha their 125's and other bikes are so good!
PremierNWMX:
That bike sounds great for sure though.
PremierNWMX:
You're obviously having fun!
Right now all the non-home-schooled kids are getting ready for homecoming.
Do you think you have missed/are missing out on anything by not going to
regular school?
LC:
Nah I’m not missing anything! I have a cool life! I mean,
come on, I ride...hang out with friends...ride some more...and a little
school! [laughing] It’s a
good time!
PremierNWMX:
Undoubtedly everyone reading this is wishing they were able to do
that too!
LC:
For sure! But hey, school isn't all bad u can cause trouble,
then ride! [laughs]
PremierNWMX:
Let's talk for a minute about some heavy stuff ok? Two great
guys died in motocross accidents in one month on the west coast.
Your injury was very serious as well. Do you ever worry about the
risk, and how do you deal with that?
LC:
That was so sad, and RIP to both of them.
I do but I also think of it this way: those lives were taken riding
mx, other lvies are taken
everyday doing other stuff. Do
what you love! I could get in a car wreck going to the track; there's
better chances of that than crashin’ on a bike, but the thing is I like
riding more than driving!
LC:
It does make u think though no doubt
PremierNWMX:
True that brother.
PremierNWMX:
You've got a great family, and I know they mean alot to you.
You wanna' tell us about them?
LC:
My mom and dad run a business together completely outside of
mx and are always working. On
their down time we’re gone riding. I have a sister Chelsea, she's
awesome and almost twenty-one so she's out of the house and I don't see
her much but she's really cool. Parents are a huge part of me and
motocross, so with that they’re a huge part of my life.
PremierNWMX:
That's awesome. So here's what everyone wants to know.
Are the Curriers rich????? [laughing]
LC:
[laughing] Nah.
PremierNWMX:
Ha ha ok. Well, thanks for clearing that up for us!
LC:
No problem! [both laughing]
PremierNWMX:
You are probably the standout rider in your age group from the
Northwest. Is there anyone around you consider a rival?
LC:
No, there's some good riders, no rivals though.
I push myself, but the Northwest has definitely got a talent level:
Ryan Villopoto, Josh Hill, Justin Keeney, Chris Johnson, want me to
name more? [laughing]
PremierNWMX:
[laughs]
No, I think we all know there's fast people up here! Why do you
think the mainstream motocross media neglects the northwest then?
LC:
No clue. Maybe cause it rains or something, but it’s not
cool. The mx scene around here is never really steady.
PremierNWMX:
Sort of comes and goes doesn't it? You think it's cause the
riders are gone so much? Avoiding the rain?
LC:
No, I think it’s because there’s not a lot of interest
from the people who run events around here, like [there is in]California.
I think everyday riders should be able to go ride and expect a nice
watered, rutted up, good track with a turn-out like cali, but that's what
the n/w is lackin’.
PremierNWMX:
Oh wow. That's an interesting point of view! It does
seem like you never know what you're gonna' get up here doesn' it?
LC:
[laughing] Yea let it all out!! But I think it makes the
riders like me want it more.
PremierNWMX:
Who do you hang with? What you do for fun?
LC:
I
hang out with my friends from the track don't
really have any local buddies from school ‘cause motocross is my life!
So I surround myself with it.
Motocross, wave board, go riding with my dad, have a smile on my
face and always be havin’ fun! I don’t know, I like anything!
PremierNWMX:
[laughing] Sounds like good times. Got yourself a chick..or
three?
LC:
[laughing] Maybe, but probably not three!
PremierNWMX:
What
no answer? [laughs]
LC:
[laughing] I said maybe, but probably not three!
PremierNWMX:
Alright.
So we now know you surround yourself with people who are into moto, and
you may have a girlfriend or two (but not three), and a great family, all
who help you reach your goals. What are those goals?
LC:
To go pro like Villopoto and be that one person everyone
wants to beat.
PremierNWMX:
What
are you doing to get there?
LC:
Everything I can, and trying my hardest with all the heart I
have!
PremierNWMX:
That's alotta' heart too bud. You have a tremendous amount of
fans here in the Northwest. I mean really, I don't even remember
Josh or Ryan having so many people supporting them. Anything you'd
like to say to them?
LC:
Yea thanks for being there 4 me its so cool!
PremierNWMX:
Alright, well we're nearing the end of this interview, so I know you
have some people and some companies you'd like to thank!
Yzmxer30six:
Yeah, the Lord JC (Jesus Christ), Yamaha, Fox, Nike 6.0,
Scott, Ogio, Dunlop, Tag Metals, Cti2, Torco, Kicker, Works Connection,
Factory Connection, FMF, Pro Wheels, TCR, 180decals, my mom, dad, sister,
all my friends, and everyone else I may have forgotten for all the
support! Thanks!
PremierNWMX:
OK so, Landon, thanks so much for taking this time to chat with us.
Everyone here in the Northwest is really proud to have you representing
us. We wish you the best in the upcoming year.
LC:
Thanks !!
